Why was I banned?

Hello.

I joined the server yesterday night to RP. After spending 30 minutes getting the content in order, I got teleported into a tunnel where everyone was shooting each other, spawning explosive barrels, and killing NPCs. They said they were waiting for a map change, so I waited around. After a bit, I started making jokes in OOC, like prefacing every OOC message with "ic:" or "ooc:" and asking to buy tooltrust. 

People killed me roughly six times, flamed me in the OOC channel, and ignored my attempts to roleplay. I didn't really care, I was just waiting for the map to change. I got kicked, came back on, asked why I was kicked, and was permabanned. What's the deal? I wanted to try the RP out.

Everyone was a little out of control that night when the event was over and done with.

I'd be surprised if your ban was permanent.

Are you all just taking his word on why he was banned, or did somebody ask around? O_o

Yeeaaah definitely check their Steam ID and see who it is before deciding to unban or not.

He hasn't been unbanned, I'm of course going to do the proper research to make sure this isn't someone weasling out of a ban

Just because no one has posted here why he was banned does not magically make him innocent. It is better to investigate what actually happened then to just work on the honor system. If people believed everyone who said they were innocent, there would be no prisoners in the world.

As is the Law of the Judicial System World Wide....if you got no evidence, your claim is false.

That would be the case if you had been arrested and were pending a trial and everyone assumed you were guilty in advance. Since you had already been banned by somebody, it is more akin to you have already been found guilty of something by a judge and are currently appealing your sentence. In which case, yes, you are assumed guilty until your innocence is proven.

He should be unbanned. Seems pretty pointless to keep him banned for something he might do just because he's a new guy.

There isn't any "keeping him banned because of something he might do". It is a matter of are you unbanning someone who deserved to be banned. You cannot just take his word for it that he didn't do anything. everyone always claims they didn't do it.

Unless someone brings up some information on the case that doesn't relate to the incidents involving the post-event night he was supposedly banned during - then I believe a lot more people should be banned, many of which we all know and love.

I'd love to be corrected, but that's all I'm seeing at the moment.

No, you are banned and ergo you should remain banned until someone properly investigates into why you were banned. When a criminal in a jail cell says they are innocent, the jailers do not go "Well, shucks, better let him out."

It is called a process of appeals. You were obviously, at some point, viewed as guilty of committing an offense. Whether that offense was a mistake or you were innocent is up for the admins to investigate and decide as opposed to just taking you on your word for it and just letting you back into the server if you genuinely are an asshat. 

As someone who has administrated various servers for various games I can tell you without a doubt that 9 times out of 10 when people appeal a ban and claim they didn't do something wrong, they are generally lying and have actually committed the offense in question. Granted, on the servers I was an admin on you also were not allowed to ban people without logging a reason. 

I'd rather the admins figure out what really happened and make an informed decision on whether or not to unban you rather then just letting you out into the server just because you said you were innocent.
