Ryker Michaelis, born on the 14th of June, 1989, was raised in a run down neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. Throughout his earliest years, young Ryker would experience a childhood without a father, a mother struggling to make ends meet, and the grandfather, whom belonged to his father's side of the family, that would pose as both a role model and father-figure to the boy. As time went on, Ryker's grand father would share countless stories of how his bloodline had been 'gifted', and would also explain how his forefathers had the ability to bend the elements to their will. He did this, under the exception that he would keep the stories a secret from his mother until he felt the time was right. The boy, bewildered by his grandfather's account of his European ancestors, had not taken this at face-value, and had convinced himself at the time that these were nothing but tall-tales meant purely to mystify his young, gullible mind. Years went by, that of which stories of Ryker's supposed bloodline had abruptly ceased to be told. When the growing grandchild had asked why this was, his grandfather had only explained that more would be revealed when he had reached the age of twelve. On Ryker's twelfth birthday, his grandfather was to share another story, and more. Ryker was especially excited for this, and eagerly awaited to hear what his dear old grandfather had kept secret for what seemed like an eternity. Ryker's grandfather had brought with him a rather large, worn book. The pages were crinkled and stained around the edges, showing off its age. Ryker ran his fingers over the rough, leathery exterior of the book. On it, a round emblem of what appeared to be made up of flames, water, and wind. He then turned his focus to the title, reading it to himself, then reading it out aloud, "Book.. of the Elements." After doing so, Ryker had eagerly turned the cover, flipping through each page that contained strange diagrams of what appeared to be a crude sketches of the anatomy of the human body and outlandish symbols. His grandfather had been watching over Ryker with delight as he Ryker began to read the text that had been written in the book. As Ryker attempted to read phrases that appeared to be in a language he did not understand, he felt a strange surge of confusion and other-worldy feelings he could not simply comprehend. The young boy was frightened and had immediately closed the book. His grandfather who had been watching him with intent thus forth, had only uttered a single word, "Capable." Ryker went on about his childhood, his mother went on about her struggle as a single mother, and his grandfather, whose old age had begun to catch up with him, had left him idle throughout the last of Ryker's younger years, spending most of them now playing with his childhood friend, Kara Lockeheart. Every now and then, Ryker would think back to strange words on the old book he read, the unusual feeling hitting him, though, with time, the memories of that particular time had began to fade. Ryker Michaelis, now age seventeen, standing over his grandfather's soon-to-be deathbed in the hospital, holds his hand as he mutters his final words, "The book in the attic... when you are ready, you will... know. Keep it close, Ryker, my beloved grandson, for what you will learn and experience later in your life... may come as a great surprise, but do not let this discourage you... myself, and those before me, had retained this bloodline for a reason. I believe the power you are unaware of still... will do good for yourself and others soon..." Ryker's grandfather laid back on his bed, exhaling his final breath as he slowly shut his eye lids. The electrocardiograph monitor had flat lined. Ryker rushed home in a fit of sadness and rage, scurrying upstairs to the attic, where he had come across his grandfather's chest, caked in dust and cobwebs alike. He unlatched the case lock and opened it, the worn, leathery book he had held in his hands years ago was lying there before him. Alongside it, a vintage suit worn by his grandfather during his younger years. As Ryker reached out for the book, the perplexing flow of emotions had hit him like a speeding train. He felt especially anxious now, and without thinking, reached for his grandfather's suit instead and slammed shut the chest before hurrying back downstairs to his room, where he would fit on his the formal attire to focus his mind on something else. To his surprise, not only did it help take away the anxiety, but he also seemed to enjoy being in that suit. It gave him a sense of relief and maturity. It was then afterwards, to his mother's dismay, that he would spend the most of the money he earned from his part-time job on formal attire. He had been ridiculed often by his peers at school, stating that he dressed like a dork. On one event in the locker room, Ryker had been changing to his gym uniform when one of his class mates had thrown about countless insults about his style, and that he dressed like, "an old man!" The angst Ryker had built up through the passing of his grandfather, his less than impressionable living conditions, and his frequent anxiety attacks, had, at that moment, been channeled through a surge of mysterious energy, as the puddle near the showers had began to flow against the ground quite sluggishly towards Ryker. The boy who had insulted him, took notice of this, backing away a bit as he let him know how much of a freak he was. Ryker tried to convince himself that this little encounter was only a coincidence before making his quit exit out of the locker room. Years went by, Ryker finally graduating high school as he spent time with quite possibly his only friend, Kara Lockeheart. He attended a two-year college, major undecided, before working full-time. This went on for a bit, keeping the thoughts of his grandfather, the book, the strange symbols, and phrases at bay. For a while, things were normal up until the global announcement of fables. Ryker wasn't sure if there were a connection between this and his supposed bloodline, he couldn't believe a person such as him would hold a power so great. He ultimately decided to pack his things, including the book, and leave Brooklyn to venture on a road trip across the country, where he would finally end up in Los Angeles. Here he had met many of the vampires and werewolves he had heard about, it was also here where he established the Ryker Palace with close friends Liz Robinson and Kara Lockeheart, who had seemingly followed him there. As time went on, the memories of the past began to diminished once more. It came to a point where the book had eventually faded from his memory as well. All was well. Or seemed to be. With the uprising of FEAR, things seemed to have started to go down hill. Ryker had lost the Ryker Palace, Liz had a sudden 'change' of mentality, his childhood friend, Kara, had remained absent for quite some time. Ryker began to feel the solidarity creep into his life. He rented out a cramped apartment, and remained there for a while. He interacted with friends here and there, but things didn't feel the same. Ryker had also started began to have strange dreams and head aches. The dreams themselves felt surreal, yet he couldn't quite make out what they were. It was one night that he dreamed the symbols from the book so vividly, it caused him to awake in a cold sweat. He immediately rose from his bed and went through his things before finding that book that had haunted him for so many years now. He ran his fingers upon the leathery cover before opening it, and began examining the diagrams and phrases page-by-page. This time, he was overcome by a feeling of relief, as if all this time the anxiety had been the book beckoning him to learn more. As he read through the pages, he took a moment to think back to his grandfather. Now he was sure that he would not let his grandfather down, and learn the ways of the elements, though this would take much time until he had gained control over the abilities he had began to embrace. It was now that he saw it as the perfect opportunity to fulfill the role of his bloodline, where he can study and appreciate his gift. The time was now for Ryker to bend the elements to his will.
Disclaimer: With these powers, I do not plan on making Ryker do completely ridiculous things such as creating thunderstorms, hurricanes, tidal waves, fire storms, earth quakes, tears in the ground, tornadoes, etc. If accepted, I humbly swear to try my very best to RP these powers with reason. If anything needs to be changed, I am willing to change stuff up, too.
